Virgin Trains takes the zombie outta you


Of course we’d relate to any thing that celebrates ‘comfortable travel’ and demonizes roadblocs/airport chokes etc. Any urban city that’s a hub has scores of people who wish they could have  just said ‘Beam me up, Scotty’. Virgin Trains has launched a new campaign titled ‘Don’t Go Zombie’ (created by MCBD, London), simply stating the obvious in a refreshing new way. Using graphic comic book illustrations, it’s an eye catcher and not unlike Virgin. Given the volcanic ash clouds and pile ups on the roads, traveling by train doesn’t seem that bad after all.

Virtual Suicide & the Case of finding release


A ‘TIME’ article (Jan ’10) read, “….Now you can scrub yourself from the Internet with Web 2.0 Suicide Machine, a nifty service that purges your online presence from these all-consuming social networks. Since its Dec. 19 launch, Suicide Machine has assisted more than 1,000 virtual deaths, severing more than 80,500 friendships on Facebook and removing some 276,000 tweets from Twitter.” Wow! Wish the concept of erasure of things that are despicable, unpalatable, hurtful etc, could be done away just as easily in the real world too. In fact I saw a small peek of this in a not so recent Hindi film titled ‘Jab We Met’. When packaging creates visual symphony!


Am a die-hard design lover. And it makes so much business sense if brands in modern formats with shelf clutter, find their own visual way to titillate. Many categories have very little packaging design differentiation. And brands often don’t express their positioning or brand personality through their designs. Sometimes it’s the difficultly in changing  moulds, at other times adherence to category codes is key and at some other times it’s the need to preserve a design for years to come. Formulations, advertising and celebrities may change but packaging is stretched till recoveries are achieved.
